In the past some causes funded by the lottery have attracted criticism
Plans to enable National Lottery players to choose causes that benefit from their money have been unveiled by Culture Secretary Tessa Jowell.

Ms Jowell announced two pilot schemes, in different parts of the UK, which will make up to £50,000 available to the most popular local charities.

It is understood that people in these areas can tick a box to register support for their favourite causes.

Lottery chiefs have been accused in the past of funding undeserving projects."
