For a growing number of Canadians, charity begins at phone

For a growing number of Canadians, charity begins at phone: "Text-to-give campaigns are one of the biggest philanthropic success stories of 2010, with mobile relief efforts for Haiti having raised tens of millions in micro-donations across North America — more than $750,000 of which came from Canadian phones. Nearly a quarter of all money raised by the Red Cross after the Tennessee floods was text donations, while The Children's Miracle Network surpassed $20,000 in $5 mobile gifts in a single day.

This week, with the one-year anniversary of the Mobile Giving Foundation Canada, fundraising professionals across the country are gathering in Toronto to discuss the trend, which many welcome as a Hail Mary against greying donors."
