Opera House chief turns high ideals into $500k reality

Opera House chief turns high ideals into $500k reality: he Idealists will form a ''circle of influence'', says chief executive Louise Herron, as the Opera House approaches its 40th birthday in October and embarks on a building and renewal program that could cost as much as $1 billion over the next 10 years.

Ms Herron is not asking her Idealists to put the squeeze on their rich networks for donations. ''Not at all,'' she says. ''It's much more subtle than that … I deeply believe that philanthropy is about relationships and valuing those relationships. The money is a secondary thing.''
